Bishwamitra Mayanglambam is all set to fight at the Matrix Fight Night 9 event against Arsenba Ozukum in Delhi on June 24. Fighting out of Kakching, a small town in Manipur, Bishwamitra made had an amazing undefeated amateur record. He made his professional debut last year at Matrix Fight Night 7 where he faced Arshiyan Memon and suffered a KO/TKO loss.
While many see it as a loss in his professional record, Bishwamitra Mayanglambam fought at MFN 7 under extreme circumstances. He had to undergo Seven (7) stitches on his forehead just 20 days before the fight. While many fighters under these kinds of circumstances will withdraw from their fight, Bishwamitra Mayanglambam isn’t your average fighter who would willingly pull out of a fight, and that too in his professional debut under the banner of the Matrix Fight Night, which is India’s premier Mixed Martial Arts promotion.
The MMA India Show had the opportunity to chat with Bishwamitra Maynglambam through his manager Rupendra Sharma, where he revealed how severe the stitches were and how it affected his performance inside the cage.
Interview with Bishwamitra Mayanglambam
How are you feeling ahead of the fight?
I feel strong and confident.
In your last fight, you lost to Arshiyan Memon? What lessons did you learn from that fight?
The lesson I learned was not to get stitches on my head just before the fight. I had 7 stitches on my head 20 days prior to my last fight. I lost a lot of blood, I thought I’ll recover but gassed out at end of 2nd round. Also, I fought underweight at 54 kg, this time I’m a proper flyweight.
With you fighting Arsenba Ozukum, it’s an all-out NE vs NE match-up? What do you know about him?
I don’t know much about him. I have seen a couple of his videotapes, he got good hand speed but It’s nothing new to me. Yes, it’s going to be NE vs NE, we’ll show the rest of the world how NE warriors fight.
Your predictions for the fight?
I’m going to knock him out or submit him, whichever the opportunity is presented to me at that time.
