Jan Blachowicz is the newest king of the Light Heavyweight division. However, he never got a chance to dethrone Jon Jones. Jones vacated the Light Heavyweight Title after announcing a move to the Heavyweight division.
Jan became the thirteenth man in history to hold the UFC light heavyweight title when he knocked out Dominick Reyes at UFC 253. Immediately after his career-defining victory, he called out the former champion Jon Jones. The two were tentatively linked to fighting earlier this year after Blachowicz knocked out Corey Anderson and Jones said he was deserving of the next shot at the light heavyweight title.
However, Blachowicz never got a chance to dethrone Jon Jones. His last two fights were controversial and close decision wins over Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes.
Blachowicz said Jones is scared of the polish power
Jones and Jan never met inside the Octagon, and the Polish superstar has his opinions on why Jones is yet to face him or accept his challenge. This is what he said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com.
“I think he will never come back. He is afraid that he will lose to me. That is why he went to heavyweight, maybe I will catch him at heavyweight,” Blachowicz said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “Who knows what he will do. I think he has a lot of things in his head and nobody knows what he will do next. If he wants to come to 205, I’m ready and waiting for him.
“For me, I would like to fight against him. It would be the best option and we have a lot of options, maybe Thiago or Glover whoever wins,” he explained. “Adesanya, also as he says he wants to go to 205. I am ready for everyone.”
If he were to fight Jones, Jan Blachowicz is confident he would land a knockout punch and be the first person to truly beat Bones.
“People will start believing in my skills and my legendary Polish power. I can beat Jon Jones the same way,” Blachowicz said. “This was important and people will believe in legendary Polish power.”
Jan Blachowicz has to fight Jon Jones if he wants to make his championship reign credible. Jones is the most dominant fighter in not only the history of their division but also the UFC. Outside his one DQ loss to Matt Hammil, Jones has no other losses on his resume, with most of his last fights being at the championship level.
Jones, however, did tease him coming back to the Light Heavyweight division, tweeting after Blachowicz’s win at UFC 253, the former champion said: “Would you guys be annoyed if I went back and grabbed my belt real quick?”
Jones has spent the last few weeks embroiled in a heated internet battle with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. For Blachowicz the next title challenger is most probably going to be the winner of Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira.
