UFC lightweight prospect Bobby Green has called himself the BMF champion of the lightweight division. He has given himself this title after accepting the short notice fight against the lightweight prospect and unstoppable force, Islam Makhachev. Beneil Dariush had withdrawn from his scheduled UFC Vegas 49 main event fight against Islam Makhachev on February 26 after suffering a leg injury in his pre-fight sparring session on Tuesday. He was then pulled from the card and now the fight has been given to Bobby Green. The fight will be a great opportunity for Bobby to get a crack at the top spot of the lightweight division.

Bobby Green recently posted a photo on Instagram with a caption in which he said that if the lightweight division had a BMF champion then that belt would have gone to himself.

“If they had one for the lightweight division,” Green wrote with a photoshopped picture of him with the BMF belt around his waist.

Bobby Green is coming off two back-to-back wins over two top lightweight fighters. He has scored wins over Al Iaquinta and Nasrat Haqparast in his last two fights. He last fought Nasrat Haqparast on February 12, 2022, at UFC 271. He won the bout via unanimous decision. Now he has accepted the fight against Islam at just a week’s notice. Bobby Green is a veteran of this game and has fought across several promotions. Bobby Green Green is the former King of the Cage Lightweight and Junior Welterweight champion, and in addition, Green has also competed in Tachi Palace Fights, Strikeforce, and Affliction.

Islam Makhachev on the other hand is on a nine-fight winning streak and is riding amazing momentum and is just one fight away from claiming his shot at the title. A bout with former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos was rescheduled and was expected to take place on October 30, 2021, at UFC 267. However, dos Anjos was forced to pull from the event due to injury, and he was replaced by Dan Hooker. He won the fight by a kimura submission in the first round.

Islam Makhachev was told that if he would get past Beneil Dariush he would have got close to the title and might have fought for the belt next. After his last win, he straight away called out for the title shot.

“I feel good because I show my level – I don’t know how many minutes (it took),” Makhachev said at the UFC 267 post-fight news conference. “Now everybody going to talk like Hooker is an easy opponent, he don’t have grappling or wrestling. Hooker is tough. He beat a lot of wrestling, grappling guy took. He beat Gilbert Burns, many guys. I think I deserve now. When (Michael) Chandler beat Hooker they give him title fight. Why not (me)? I am ready, too. I’m here not to beat 15 people and fight. I have nine fights (in a row now).”

Bobby Green is now taking on one of the biggest challenges in his fighting Career. If Bobby Green passes this toughest challenge he might get a crack into the top of the lightweight division.
