Neeraj Goyat, affectionately called the ‘Hindusthani Yodha’ by his fans around India, is slowly climbing up the WBC ranks.
The Chandigarh based boxer is raking up the awards and the latest of which is the ‘WBC ASIA BOXER OF THE YEAR’ award in the welterweight category.
WBC Asia Boxer of the Year
Neeraj Goyat (9-2-2), who is currently ranked No.35 in the WBC world welterweight rankings, turned professional back in 2011. He had a shaky start- losing 2 and drawing 2 of his first 4 fights. Ever since then, Goyat has been on a tear.
He is currently on a 9 fight win streak, the latest of which coming back in 2017, against Philippine, Allan Tannada. This was his 3rd straight WBC Asian Boxing Council welterweight title win. He was consequently named WBC Asia Boxer of the year.
This is what he had to comment on the award.
“I am really happy to receive such an honour from WBC, I will continue to work hard in the future fights.”
Neerav Tomar, promoter of IOS Boxing Promotions, who happens to manage both Neeraj Goyat and Olympic medalist Vijender Singh, was also awarded at the occasion. He bagged the ‘WBC Asia honorary Promoter of the year 2017‘ award by the Asian Boxing Council in Bangkok on Monday.
Neeraj Goyat, whose dream is to become the WBC World Welterweight Champion, also incidentally holds a perfect 2-0 MMA record. After this recent recognition, the future for one of India’s biggest boxing prospects sure looks bright.
