In an interview with ESPN, Deontay Wilder has asserted that Anthony Joshua will never be a worldwide figure without him.

Apparently, Wilder opines that a fight between himself and Joshua is paramount not only to him but also to Joshua.

Towering American slugger, Deontay Wilder, is the reigning WBC Heavyweight Champion, and widely regarded as one of, if not the, best Heavyweight boxer in the world today.

On the other hand, Anthony Joshua is the current IBF, IBO and WBA (Super) Heavyweight titlist, and hailed by many as the greatest Heavyweight to hail from the UK, as well as considered by several fight pundits as the best Heavyweight pugilist in the world today.

Nevertheless, Deontay Wilder alluded to Anthony Joshua being nothing more than a hype train built up as an illusion for fans in England. Wilder stated—

“I need him and he (Anthony Joshua) needs me at the end of the day, unless he doesn’t want to unify. Unless he wants to stay over his side of the pond and let people gravitate to him and be a fake sign of what he (says he) is. But he will never be a global icon. You will never be a world-wide figure without me. All roads lead to Deontay Wilder.”

“Everybody wants to see the fight…The only people that don’t are his promoters. They already know how big of a risk this really is. They should be worried but how long do they really think the public, the fans of boxing are going to allow them to stay away from me? This is the biggest fight in our era.”

Anthony Joshua’s next fight is a title unification bout billed as Road to Undisputed, as AJ puts his IBF, IBO and WBA (Super) Heavyweight titles on the line against Joseph Parker with the latter’s WBO belt at stake.

Joshua vs. Parker goes down at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on March 31st.
