Floyd Mayweather Jr. has taken to social media so as to fire back at a few netizens who’ve been comparing him to real-life “American Gangster” Frank Lucas.
Apparently, Mayweather has asserted that he mustn’t be compared to Lucas—alluding that the latter is a snitch, whereas Mayweather stands for honor and loyalty.
Frank Lucas is the subject of the 2007 Hollywood movie American Gangster—with the lead role essayed by highly-regarded American actor Denzel Washington. Lucas was one of USA’s most notorious drug dealers whose meteoric rise to the top in the late 1960s garnered him a considerable amount of attention in both social and economic circles back in the day.
Lucas’ criminal empire fell apart in the mid-1970s, as the police cracked down on the vast majority of his criminal undertakings; following which he was sentenced to 70 years in prison in 1976, but turned state witness and revealed valuable insider information on the underworld, owing to which he was eventually granted security under the Witness Protection Program.
Floyd Mayweather was recently spotted in a chinchilla fur coat at the Super Bowl; following which several fans claimed that Mayweather has indeed taken a page out of Frank Lucas’ playbook—given that the American Gangster-turned-informant was known to have an extensive collection of several expensive mink and chinchilla coats.
Apparently, Mayweather got wind of the same, and alluded that people should not compare his custom $100,000 chinchilla fur coat to that of the Rex Rabbit fur Frank Lucas wore back in his day.
Furthermore, Mayweather emphasized that he’s always been dressing tip-top, and has donned chinchilla fur coats since the 1990s.
Besides, Mayweather added that he wore chinchilla boxing trunks in his 2003 boxing match against Phillip Ndou.
Additionally, Mayweather pointed out that the American Gangster movie didn’t come out until 2007, and that was the very first time he heard about Lucas.
I see some of you are making comparisons to the custom $100,000.00 chinchilla fur coat I wore last night to the off the rack, Rex rabbit fur Frank Lucas wore in his day. One thing for sure is I’ve always dressed fly from head to toe! I’ve been wearing chinchillas since the late 90’s, in fact I wore chinchilla boxing trunks in 2003 in my fight against Phillip Ndou. ‘American Gangster’ didn’t come out until 2007, which was my first time ever hearing of the confidential informant, Frank Lucas. Now I’ve been called plenty of things in my life, but being compared to a legendary snitch is not one of them! Honor & Loyalty has been my code throughout my entire life and that is how I will always remain! I’ve never wanted to be anything or anyone but MYSELF!
