Canelo Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya reported Tuesday that the former two-division champion has rejected Gennady Golovkin’s push for a 50-50 purse split and is pursuing a Sept. 15 non-title bout against Daniel Jacobs. Alvarez’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, told ESPN that he was walking away from the negotiating table, stating that “the Canelo train has left the station.”

“Oscar is kind of all over the place on this,” Loeffler said. “One day he is saying the fight is nearly made, then he is talking about putting Canelo in with (WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders) or Jacobs.

“I am talking to Eric and I am hoping we can come to a conclusion. It doesn’t seem to be too complicated, it is still the biggest fight out there for both guys.”

Boxing: Oscar DeLa Hoya says Canelo vs GGG rematch negotiations are OFF - Canelo

The Canelo-GGG rematch was originally scheduled for May 5, but had to be canceled because Canelo twice tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. Alvarez will return from his six-month suspension on August 17.

The fight between Golovkin and Alvarez would have been a rematch from a fight September 2017 that ended with a controversial draw. Judge Adalaide Byrd scored the fight 118-110 Alvarez over GGG, who many thought was the winner.

Golovkin beat Vanes Martirosyan as a replacement opponent on May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena.
