Due to the injury that the Mexican Oscar Valdez had in his recent fight against Scott Quigg, the World Boxing Organization decided that the fight between the Irishman Carl Frampton and the Filipino Nonito Donaire on April 21st at the SSE Arena in Belfast will be for the interim featherweight title, with the condition that Valdez, current champion, must face the winner in the future.

In an interview to Boxnation Frampton added,”A great night of boxing in Belfast gets even bigger,This is great news that gives much more importance to the event even if you do not need it, Oscar Valdez will have to face the interim champion when he is back and that is a great incentive for me and for Donaire. The fight with Valdez is something that catches my attention, as well as going with the winner of Selby and Warrington, but I think that the fight with Valdez would attract more attention in both parts of the world, not just in Britain”.

He also added,”I think the Valdez fight would get a lot more attention on both sides of the globe rather than just in the UK. The winner of Selby v Warrington would be a big fight in the UK but a fight with Valdez would be a huge fight worldwide.”

In the same role, the South African Zolani Tete, rooster champion of the WBO, will make the second of his scepter against the Argentine Omar Narváez, after having knocked out in 11 seconds to Siboniso Gonya in the first defense, something that helped him to register his name in world records.

Valdez is still four weeks ahead without being able to move his mouth, because he underwent special treatment to avoid surgery after a broken jaw that resulted on March 10 before a Scott Quigg, a British boxer who took him 7 pounds at the time of the combat, after not having marked the 126 pounds a day before.
