Brave 23: Al-Selwady to defend title at home against Luan Santiago
Brave Combat Federation has announced the first fight for its return to Jordan. Set for April, Brave 23 takes place in Amman and will feature a Lightweight title fight between the current world champion and local idol Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady and dangerous Brazilian striker Luan “Miau” Santiago.
Jordanian hero Al-Selwady hasn’t tasted defeat since joining Brave Combat Federation in late 2016. He has won his five bouts with the promotion, including a memorable first-round TKO of Lucas “Mineiro”, which gave him the undisputed Lightweight title, in the main event of the historical Brave 18.
With an impressive 10-1 record, Al-Selwady hasn’t lost since 2014 and has beaten the likes of Erick “Indio Brabo”, Charlie Leary, and Michael Deiga-Sheck on his way to the top of Brave’s Lightweight division. Now, he will make the first defense of his belt at home.
“The Pride of Palestine” will take on a big challenge in Luan Santiago. Brazil’s Fighter of the Year in 2016, “Miau” won his first two Brave bouts by TKO, before suffering an arm injury in the last seconds of his fight with Lucas “Mineiro”, back at Brave 11.
However, the CM System product has bounced back with a near-perfect performance against fellow striker and owner of Brave’s fastest-ever KO, Djamil Chan. Using his reach and connecting at will with straight punches, Santiago dismantled the Dutchman on his way to a dominant decision victory, which has enabled him to challenge for the title next.
Brave 23 will mark the return to Jordan of the biggest MMA organization in the Middle East. In 2018, the promotion put on an unforgettable show at Brave 10, which saw victories for local heroes Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady and Jarrah Al-Selawe, as well as the first-ever Brave title defense – then-champion Elias Boudegzdame submitted Jakub Kowalewicz to maintain his Featherweight crown.
