In a groundbreaking move, BRAVE Combat Federation (BRAVE CF), in collaboration with KHK MMA, is spearheading a comprehensive sports development program specifically tailored for Indian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters. This initiative aims to elevate the Indian MMA scene by providing unparalleled support and opportunities to aspiring athletes.
The BRAVE CF Development Program: A Holistic Approach
The BRAVE CF Development Program encompasses various facets crucial for an athlete’s growth and success:
- Training Assistance: Selected fighters gain access to world-class training facilities and coaching expertise. The program includes training sessions with the renowned KHK MMA team in the Kingdom of Bahrain, a hub for MMA excellence.
- Medical Aid: Health and well-being are paramount. The program ensures that fighters receive necessary medical attention, rehabilitation, and injury prevention support.
- Competition Backing: BRAVE CF actively promotes Indian fighters by providing them with opportunities to compete on international platforms. Exposure to high-level competition accelerates their growth and hones their skills.
- Media Exposure: Visibility is key. The program facilitates media coverage, interviews, and promotional activities, allowing fighters to build their personal brand and connect with fans.
BRAVE CF & India: A Tie that has deep roots
While BRAVE CF takes the initiative to develop the country’s MMA fighters, the promotion’s ties with India goes above and beyond. They are the only global organization to host events in India and has been giving global platform to Indian fighters, such as the case of Mohammad Farhad, who has been rising up the pecking order in the promotion and even got the opportunity o train with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The promotion has also provided international-level opposition for Indian fighters to test their skills against fighters from different backgrounds and fighting disciplines. They have facilitated matchups for Indian fighters against challenges from Egypt, the Philippines, Thailand, Canada, Indonesia, Afghanistan, England, Jordan, and Italy in BRAVE CF Indian events.
Another remarkable milstones for BRAVE CF in India was first and only international main event of UFC superstar Khamzat Chimaev, who fought at BRAVE CF 20 back in December 2018 which took place in Hyderabad.
Through BRAVE CF events, India was graced with the presence of many other top fighters from around the world, such as Jeremy Pacatiw and Rolando Dy from the Philippines, Brazilians Erick ‘’Indio Brabo’’, Paulo Bananada, Maria Ribeiro, and Alex ‘’Leko’’; American Phil Hawes; and Jordanian stand-outs Ali Al-Qaisi and Jalal Al-Daaja.
Mahboob Khan: A Trailblazer
Mahboob Khan, an Indian fighter, etched his name in history by becoming the first Indian athlete to secure a BRAVE CF development contract back in July last year. With a professional record of 6-4-0, the Hyderabad native’s journey exemplifies the program’s impact, as he now enjoys comprehensive support on his path to MMA greatness.
President Mohammed Shahid’s Vision
Back in September last year, BRAVE CF’s President Mohammed Shahid expressed his enthusiasm for expanding the program in India.
“India is a huge market for Combat Sports. We love India and the passion of the athletes and fans for the sport. We have definitive plans in the pipeline to not just host events but also to nurture the thriving ecosystem for MMA in India. We love hosting events there and more than anything we look forward to giving Indian athletes the exposure to represent the nation worldwide. We have one of the largest fan followings for the brand from India, so we also have exciting initiatives for our fans out there in the region to be unveiled in the coming days and want to give our fans more reasons to engage with the brand,” Shahid said at that time. With the success of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) initiative, BRAVE CF is poised to replicate this model in India. Talks are also underway for potential BRAVE CF events in cities like Burgas, Bulgaria, further solidifying the organization’s commitment to global MMA development23.
A Promising Future
As the Indian MMA community eagerly awaits the program’s full rollout, BRAVE CF’s dedication to fostering talent and creating a sustainable ecosystem is commendable. With each fighter’s success, the program takes a step closer to its mission: to transform Indian MMA into a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.
