Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D is one of the top stars of AEW. She has been dominating the women’s division of the promotion. A former AEW Women’s World Champion, Britt Baker is a dentist as well. She has often referred to dentistry as her ‘dream job’ and recently we got the opportunity to catch up with her. She went on to discuss a variety of topics during the interview.
Britt Baker opens up on not competing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view is in the history books. It was a historic event and gained success. It was quite surprising that Britt Baker did not make the cut to be a part of the show. We asked her about her thoughts on the matter and here is what she said[as transcribed by MMA India]:
“I mean, there’s going to be tons of events, matches and pay-per-views I’m not a part of but I’m very thankful for the ones I’m a part of. Because these types of can happen without the stuff that me and the originals of AEW did early on. I’m part of everything that happens here until the time of All Elite Wrestling. I was the first female signed, in fact there’s a women’s division now. I’m part of the growth, I’m the part of AEW.”
She said that it’s a big weight off her shoulders to sit back and watch the pay-per-view rather than stressing backstage. She added: “With AEW, everything is special with D.M.D attached to it.”
Britt Baker talks about balancing dentistry and pro wrestling
Managing both dentistry and pro wrestling doesn’t sound an easy job to do but Britt Baker pulls it off quite well. We asked her what made her continue to pursue a career in pro wrestling despite having a day job.
She said: “Once I set my mind on doing two things, being a wrestler and a dentist, there’s no way anybody was telling me any differ. I’m too stubborn, I’m too determined. I don’t know I was trying to do both at the same time and one didn’t come before the other. So when I started my dental school, it was training to be a professional wrestler. I stayed really stubborn with my goals, I didn’t want anybody to tell me that I had to choose one of the other. And they tried every week to tell me ‘this is stupid’, that I need to give one up, I need to decide. That pi**ed me off more and made me more determined to do what I am doing now, what everybody told me I couldn’t do.”
When asked about the motivation to cope up with the hardships, she stated that “you just have to take it day by day. Time management is huge in having two jobs. She said that the final goal might look “daunting” but taking “one step at a time” does the job.
Britt Baker recalls her first title win in AEW
Britt Baker was the first contracted female wrestler in AEW and worked the promotions’s first-ever event All in 2018. She then worked the promotion’s first pay-per-view Double or Nothing in 2019. She then went on to become the AEW Women’s World Championship at Double or Nothing 2021 and captured her first title in the company. So, it’s a full circle for ‘The Role Model.’ During the interview, she recalled a memorable moment in her career.
“Coming full circle to winning the title, hands down [it was] one of the most special nights of my entire life both in wrestling and outside of wrestling. Because when I won the title at the pay-per-view, for the first time from the pandemic in over a year that we had a full arena. We had a full crowd and essentially since I turned heel, I get to experience it with the fans during the pandemic. Everything was during the pandemic, doing promos that weren’t getting any reactions, because no one was there. So, being in the ring and getting to do the ‘D.M.D,’ the whole crowd did it with me, for the first time. Even talking about it, it gives me goosebumps. Then winning the title and the reaction, just having the fans along was really, really special.”
Britt Baker is currently involved in a feud with Thunder Storm(Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm) and has been going back and forth with the team in backstage promo segments.
