Ahead of UFC Phoenix scheduled to take the stage this Saturday night, preparations in Cain Velasquez’s camp is full swing. The former UFC heavyweight champion will be going against ‘The Predator,’ Francis Ngannou, at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. This matchup marks the return of Cain Velasquez, to the sport, after his three-year hiatus from mixed martial arts and the UFC. Velasquez suffered from a persistent back injury for nearly three years, which subsequently kept him out of training and competition.
On December 26th, 2018, an official announcement was made by the UFC in regards to the return of Cain Velasquez. A competition slated for February 17th was declared by the promotion, in an attempt to solidify a mega-fight between Francis Ngannou and Cain Velasquez. Both fighters will be entering this contest with wins from their previous performances, making it a must-watch fixture from the perspective of MMA nerds and critics.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Velasquez confessed that he would retire from mixed martial arts if his level of competence against Ngannou doesn’t suffice. Following a near three-year lay off from the sport, ‘ring rust’ may come to be the career-demising factor of arguably the most accomplished heavyweight of all time. But with that being said, Cain Velasquez is all set to make a spectacular comeback to the UFC and is sure to put on a show for his fans.
