Former UFC heavyweight champion and professional wrestler Cain Velasquez was recently on the headlines for allegedly shooting a man and was charged with attempted murder. As things have turned out, Velasquez apparently had a reason for taking such a violent approach, as it has been revealed that his target was recently accused of molesting a minor, who is the retired mixed martial artist’s close relative.
Cain Velasquez attempted murder was on 43-year-old who was accused of molesting a minor at a daycare
The report was made by Denver Post, which cited that the man Cain Velasquez targeted, is one Harry Eugene Goularte, a 43-year-old who lives at a home-daycare business run by his mother in San Martin, California.
On Friday, Goularte was charged with one felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14 and was granted supervised release which was objected by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Sources with knowledge of the case reported that the minor, whose name has been kept classified, was molested at the daycare center and is a close relative of Velasquez.
On Monday, three days after Goularte was released, around 3:15 pm near the Monterey Highway and Bailey Avenue interchange which lies close to Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill, California, Velasquez reportedly opened fire on a vehicle that was carrying Goularte, his stepfather and one more occupant, as reported by police. Even though Goularte survived, his stepfather sustained one shot but is expected to recover.
Cain Velasquez is currently being held at Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail, but is yet to be charged. The former two-time UFC heavyweight champion and former WWE wrestler, has made no comments on the shooting so far and a trial is scheduled for this Wednesday.
Velasquez has won the UFC heavyweight title for the first time at UFC 121, defeating Brock Lesnar via a 1st round TKO in October. He then lost it against Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1 in November next year, and would win it back once again in the rematch against dos Santos at UFC 155 in December 2012, and followed up with two back to back title defenses, including a trilogy fight with dos Santos. Against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 in June 2015, Velasquez lost the title for the second time.
“Cardio Cain” made his final appearance in the Octagon against Francis Ngannou at UFC on ESPN 1 in February 2019, losing the bout via 1st round TKO. Later in October the same year, Velasquez announced his retirement from MMA, and had joined World Wrestling Entertainment as well as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
