To see Canelo Alvarez and Kamaru Usman face to face had been one of the most desires matchups among the combat sports fandom, but according to Ali Abdelaziz, Canelo has blown his chances to face the UFC Welterweight champion after his loss to Dmitry Bivol.

Canelo Alvarez has become just a regular guy: Abdelaziz

Back on 7th May, WBA Light Heavyweight champion Bivol pulled off a shocker after dominating the favourite Canelo throughout the 12 rounds, marking a victory via unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 115-113) at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Prior to the fight, most fans expected Canelo to continue his prowess into 175 as the undisputed champion had been storming through the 168 division and there were even talks about boxing’s pound for pound king locking horns with the UFC’s pound for pound king- Kamaru Usman.

However, with Canelo’s setback against Bivol, Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz now believes the Mexican has dropped from his P4P throne and has become just a regular, blowing his chances of landing a fight with “The Nigerian Nightmare” in the process.

“Canelo has become just a regular guy. He became just one of the guys. I don’t think he’s the pound-for-pound king anymore” Abdelaziz told Menace Tube, “Canelo, his mystique is gone. When people lose their mystique, it leaves them. I respect Canelo, but I think he blew a great opportunity for him [to fight Usman].” [H/T The Mirror]
