Michael Bisping, a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, believes that Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates’ new UFC Kansas main event is a matchmaking success.
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree were originally scheduled to square off as the card’s main event. Hill was removed from the event because of an injury, so that bout will have to wait. Rountree has consequently been removed from UFC Kansas as well.
Garry vs. Prates, a crucial bout in the welterweight class, will take its place.
Analysis of Garry vs. Prates by Bisping
In a new video posted on his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping gushed over the clash between Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates.
“I think it makes all the sense in the world,” Bisping said. “For Carlos Prates, it’s a chance to get a big win over somebody like Ian Garry, and for Ian Machado Garry, he gets to step in there with a hot prospect right now. Someone that’s knocking everybody out.”
After handing Shavkat Rakhmonov his most difficult test to date, Bisping praised Garry for stepping up on short notice. The UFC color analyst also mentioned Prates’s current momentum.
“Fair play because this is not an easy matchup,” Bisping said. “Ian Garry, what is he going to do? I don’t think he’s going to go out there and look to take down Carlos Prates. Yes, of course it’s mixed martial arts, but Carlos Prates training with the Fighting Nerds, these guys are ready for everything.”
Garry’s first loss in his professional mixed martial arts career came via unanimous decision against Rakhmonov. Prior to the competitive bout with “Nomad,” the Irishman had a 15-0 record. Since June 2019, Prates has not lost a professional mixed martial arts bout. Right now, he has won 11 straight fights. The matchup between Garry and Prates is scheduled for April 26 at T-Mobile Center.
