Former women’s UFC fighter and current Bellator women’s fighter Cat Zingano has sued movie star Halle Berry over the role Cat was supposed to play in her film.

Halle Berry and Cat Zingano

Former UFC fighter and the current Bellator contender Cat Zingano was going to play a key character in the movie which was starring Halle Berry. But due to unknowing circumstances, she was cut from the movie. Zingano claims in the suit that she missed a vital UFC fight to star in “Bruised,” Berry’s directorial debut, only to be cut from the film and UFC entirely. In the lawsuit, the UFC fighter claims Berry asked her to star in the film in 2019 because of the apparent parallels between the “Bruised” script and the fighter’s life.

Cat Zingano

Due to the movie,  Cat refused a fight in the UFC as she wanted to fully focus on either fighting or do the movie and at that point, she chose to do the movie. But as she stepped back from the offered fight in August 2019, it was announced that Zingano had been released from the UFC.

“In the docs, Cat claims she talked to Halle about the fight offer and claims Halle advised she pass on the fight if she wanted to be in the film, citing liability concerns from the movie’s insurer,” stated in the TMZ article.

In her last UFC fight, Cat faced Megan Anderson in a featherweight fight at UFC 232. She unusually lost the fight. She lost via a technical knockout in round one after an eye injury from an Anderson kick that didn’t allow her to continue. Anderson’s toe grazed Zingano’s eyeball, rendering her unable to continue due to blurred vision. Although the injury looked like it could potentially be serious, Zingano later reported that the condition of her eye was getting better.

Bellator 245: Cat Zingano expresses mixed feelings after debut win

On October 29, 2019, it was announced that Zingano had signed with Bellator MMA. In her promotional debut, Zingano faced Gabby Holloway at Bellator 245 and She won the fight via unanimous decision. Zingano then went on to face Olivia Parker at Bellator 256. She won the bout via first-round armbar submission. She is now 2-0 in her Bellator career.

According to Bellator boss Scott Coker, Cat Zingano could be next in line for reigning featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.

“That’s one of the reasons we brought Cat here, is that she has a victory over Amanda Nunes. This is something that I think she came here to fight Cyborg. She’s had a couple fights, and she feels pretty good about it. Will we do that fight next? I’m not sure, but we’ll definitely have a conversation next week with everybody.” – Scott Coker said following Bellator 259.
