Despite being almost six years away from the sport, Ronda Rousey’s name still continues to echo within mixed martial arts, and even Henry Cejudos’s coach opines that she needs to return to the Octagon to “save” the featherweight division.
“Rowdy” retired from MMA back in 2018, before switching to WWE as a pro wrestler, where she is currently one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. During her tenure in the UFC, Rousey had racked up 12 wins in a row in the Octagon and reigned as the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion for three years until her maiden career loss to Holly Holm in 2015, followed by the second setback in a row against Amanda Nunes in 2016, following which she called it quits from MMA two years later.
While she continues her pro wrestling career in WWE, there have been constant rumors of Rowdy making a potential return to the UFC and with the bantamweight title recently being vacated with the retirement of Amanda Nunes (with the featherweight title also expected to be vacated in the coming days), the speculations of Rousey returning with a direct shot at the title is also stronger.
2023 Also saw the return of former double champ Henry Cejudo coming out of retirement to fight Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight throne last month when he was defeated via split decision.
In the meantime, Cejudo’s coach Eric Albarracin opened up on what should be Rousey’s game plan on a possible UFC return, and he believes that her comeback should take place at 145 as well.
On social media, here’s what Albarracin said regarding conversations with followers of the sport:
“Should be (at) 145lbs.” he said regarding Rousey’s return.
“To save the weight class.” he added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
