Cowboy to Conor McGregor: Sit yo a** down!

Donald Cerrone once had his eyes locked in on a fight with Conor McGregor. The fight never did materialize. However, “Cowboy” has now moved ahead of the idea of a lucratrive encounter with the Irishman.

After an impressive victory over Alexander Hernandez in January, Cerrone and McGregor had a string of exchanges on social media. Most of the fans, along with the UFC, were convinced that a fight between the two is inevitable. The UFC tried to cash in on the opportunity and book a matchup.

But McGregor wanted to fight only on a main event spot. And that eventually led to the negotiations falling off between him and the UFC. Cerrone would instead go on to fight and beat Al Iaquinta instead.

Now as Cerrone sits on the verge of his third fight during his return to lightweight, he gave his unfiltered thoughts on how he felt about McGregor and the fight that never actually happened.

“Conor’s had his shot, sit your ass down now f—ker,” Cerrone said when speaking to the media in Chicago on Wednesday. “[I’ll] take the belt.”

With age catching up on the American’s side his current run maybe his last opportunity to get a fight for the 155 pound title. He has won his two fights during his return to lightweight and a win over Tony Ferguson would give a significant increase to his stock.

Ferguson, himself, is riding one of the most impressive active winning streaks of the organsiation. Undefeated in his last 11 professional appearences, he will look to do what he does best – catch his opponent guessing on his unorthodox style while he works his magic. Nonetheless, Cerrone is prepared for what may come his way.

“Probably his stand up just with the unorthodox, don’t see the strike coming punches,” Cerrone said when asked where Ferguson is the best. “Him moving backwards, he’s not very good though and his ground, I believe I’m better.

“Tony’s style puts him in danger a lot. So we’ll see if he can take the punishment.”
