Chael Sonnen‘s criminal case, which stems from an alleged attack that took place at a hotel in Las Vegas one year ago, is about to go to trial.

After multiple alleged victims of the assault filed complaints, Chael Sonnen rejected a plea deal from the prosecution on four misdemeanour battery charges he is currently facing. Chael Sonnen’s trial will start on April 5.

Sometimes, the parties get so close, and sometimes it just doesn’t make it all the way,” At a Wednesday status check hearing in Las Vegas Township Justice Court, attorney Dayvid Figler informed judge Joe Bonaventure. (H/T – MMAfighting.com)

All of the plea deals that Chael Sonnen was offered were afterwards “revoked,” a state prosecutor stated.

What did Chael Sonnen do?

On December 18, 2021, at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, Sonnen is allegedly responsible for many attacks on victims. Julie and Christopher Stellpflug, a couple who were initially connected to the criminal case, claim Sonnen punched both of them and put Christopher Stellpflug in a chokehold after snatching a drink out of his hand as he walked down a hotel hallway. They claim Sonnen then attacked three security officers who stepped in to save them.

Sonnen is accused of acting aggressively and being intoxicated at the time of the alleged attack, according to the couple. They were dismissed from the criminal case when the prosecution failed to discover sufficient proof to establish a felony battery conviction, and they are now suing Sonnen in civil court. A man who identified himself as a maintenance worker and claimed to have been punched in the jaw without cause is also suing Sonnen in court. According to the man, one of Sonnen’s visitors started the assault.

Sonnen has not made any statements about his lawsuit in the media. Judge Ann E. Zimmerman is likely to hear it when it goes to trial in April. The three-time UFC title contender still makes appearances on his YouTube channel, but his ESPN commentating gig was suspended once his case came to light.
