Former Bellator lightweight champion and UFC newcomer Michael Chandler will fight Brazilian contender Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 262 on May 15.

The news was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

With UFC acknowledging Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired, Michael Chandler (@MikeChandlerMMA) and Charles Oliveira (@CharlesDoBronxs) will fight for the lightweight championship at UFC 262 on May 15. End of an era. Start of a new chapter at 155,” Okamoto tweeted.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has retired from the sport and UFC president Dana White acknowledged his retirement in a tweet.

29-0 it is. He is officially retired. It was incredible to watch you work @TeamKhabib thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend.” Dana White tweeted.

Michael Chandler made a stunning UFC debut back in January at UFC 257, where he brutally knocked out Dan Hooker in the first round.

Charles Oliveira, who’s won his past eight octagon bouts and is ranked No. 3 in the promotion’s top-15 at 155 pounds has been campaigning for the title fight ever since he decisively defeated former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 256 last December.

Charles Oliveira was offered the fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 257, but he declined the fight because of weight cutting issues.
