UFC lightweight contender Charles Oliveira says he is going to move on from the Dustin Poirier fight as Poirier has shown no interest.

Charles Oliveira has been clear that a title shot against Dustin Poirier is the only thing currently on his mind. However, Poirier plans to fight Conor McGregor once again in a highly anticipated trilogy fight. The bout is expected to go down in the summer, and Oliveira will likely be on the sideline for a meaningful period.

Joe Rogan wants Oliviera vs Poirier

Earlier this week, UFC commentator Joe Rogan called for a lightweight title fight between Charles and Poirier, with the division’s reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov retiring.

“That would have been an interesting fight to see: [Oliveira] vs Khabib,” Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (h/t Essentially Sports). “The way Oliveira controlled [Tony Ferguson] on the ground—we wanted to know what would happen [if Ferguson fought Nurmagomedov] because Tony is dangerous off his back… I’m more interested to see Oliveira fight for the title than anybody in that division.

“I believe [Nurmagomedov] is the GOAT of that division, but I don’t know what would have happened with Oliveira until you see it,” Rogan continued. “With Oliveira, there are moments—like when Cub Swanson knocked him out—there are moments when you go back in his career and you go, ‘this guy is not the greatest.’ Then you see him in some fights like the Kevin Lee fight, and he’s just so technical, everything’s so good. He’s never out of position. He doesn’t force anything.

“Man, I want to see him fight for the title,” Rogan concluded. “I wanna see him fight Dustin.”

Dustin Poirier took to Twitter and responded to Charles in a way that got the fans’ attention. Chiefly, ‘Do Bronx’ reposted an article that saw Joe Rogan pine for a fight between the Brazilian and Poirier. However, it seems as though Dustin ‘The Diamond’ has plans of his own that he plans to stick by.

While the current UFC lightweight title is held by Khabib Nurmagomedov, he will likely be vacating it considering that he has retired from the sport of MMA last year following his submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. UFC is now doing their best to bring Nurmagomedov out of retirement and if not then they need to find an alternative option for the vacant belt.

With Dustin Poirier taking out Conor McGregor, Charles Oliveira says that he should be fighting Poirier for the title next but seems like Dustin is not interested in that fight.

Charles Oliveira is coming off of a unanimous decision win over former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 256 last December. He completely dominated Ferguson in the fight on the ground and put his name out there as one of the top lightweights in the division.
