Unbeaten UFC star Khamzat Chimaev (9–0) has reported crashed his Mercedes, which he received as a gift from Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya on Tuesday.

The news of the accident was first reported by a Chechen news portal under the name @chp.grozniy.95 on Instagram, showing the clip of a black Mercedes-Benz which had crashed into the barrier beside the highway with the front left side of the car badly damaged.

Despite crashing his Mercedes, Khamzat Chimaev was unharmed

Several spectators were seen at the site of the crash, along with emergency services and the news portal claimed that Chimaev was behind the steering wheel at the time of the crash.

“Khamzat Chimaev had an accident yesterday. Khamzat himself was not injured,” the caption of the clip read.

The car looked identical to the one which Chimaev received as a gift from after meeting Kadyrov back in January, a gesture that the Chechen leader also showed to Khabib Nurmagomedov after defeating Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in October 2018.

Alongside Chimaev and Khabib, former UFC flyweight Magomedo Bibulatov, former AFC Bantamweight Champion Said Nurmagomedov, and former M-1 Global Eastern Europe Heavyweight Champion Maxim Grishin have also received similar gifts from Kadyrov.

Although Chimaev himself has not made any confirmation about the crash, the MMA star was seen posing with his Merc earlier in the day in a picture he shared on his Instagram, along with wishing his fanbase good morning.

2021 has been a rough year for Khamzat Chimaev. The 26-year-old had contracted COVID-19 earlier this year which caused his fight against Leon Edwards at UFC Fight Island 8 on 20th January to be scrapped.

The virus contraction had impacted Chimaev’s physical health to such an extent that the fighter even considered parting ways with mixed martial arts after only 9 professional fights.

However, on behalf of ‘millions of fans in Russia’, Ramzan Kadyrov himself came forward to talk the Swede-based fighter out of his retirement plans and to return to the Octagon.

“Khamzat said that the recovery from illness is slow and, trying to be honest and frank with the fans, he decided not to give them hope,” Kadyrov had stated during then, “if fans need to wait for his return, then we will all look forward to his entry into the octagon with trepidation and patience.”

Chimaev, who was last seen in action against Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Fight Night 178 in September last year, recently called out former UFC icon Nick Diaz to a fight.
