Chris Weidman feels his wrestling and BJJ is better than Jon Jones

Chris Weidman suffered a devastating defeat against Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza last year at UFC 230 which took place at the Madison Square Garden. The to-and-fro fight saw Souza come out on top in the third round via Knockout.

Weidman is now 14-4 in his career and was coming off a one-year layoff when he fought Souza.  Now with half of 2019 nearly over, the former middleweight champion has moved up to light heavyweight and contemplating top fights in the division.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, he said that he wants ‘High Risk, High Reward’ type of fights.

I’ve had two back-to-back surgeries, I’m coming off a loss, and I’m just like, my weight’s going kind of high,” Weidman said. “I won’t be the biggest 205er, that’s definitely for sure. But I don’t think I’ll be the smallest. I think I bring things to the table that could be an issue for a lot of those guys.” He added.

When asked by reporters about how he feels about fighting UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, he replied that he always wanted to fight him and he would do good against him as he feels his wrestling and BJJ is better than Jones.

Honestly I feel I would bring a lot of problems to the table with my Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling and also I am long…….and I have power in my hands and especially at 205 that might be a benefit for me in hitting harder. On paper my Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling is better than his, the way he has been able to mix it up so well in the feet and trick you with his stand up and also look for takedowns, the way he uses his elbows and knees…I mean we haven’t seen a guy do it as well as him,” Weidman said.

But I am able to drag it into what I am great at then I think I bring a serious problem and also my pace…..my pace is something that I really bring to the table and I don’t know if a lot of 205 pounders can hold up to that,” he concluded.
