Chuck Liddell receives indefinite medical suspension after KO loss to Tito Ortiz

Finally, after a long wait of 14 years, Tito Ortiz finally got his revenge as he knocked out his longtime rival Chuck Liddell in the first round of their fight today at the Forum in Los Angeles.

This fight was a trilogy promoted by Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya of Chuck and Tito’s classic fights which took place back in 2004 and 2006. Both of which were won by Chuck Liddell.

Both fighters started out cautious and measured their punches. with Oritz stalking Liddell for the majority of the round and landing few exchanges. It was moments later that they engaged in another flurry of punches, with Ortiz landing a straight right that immediately dropped Liddell to the canvas. The referee immediately jumped to stop the fight.

The fans have widely criticised Golden Boy promotions and also California State Athletic Commission for issuing Chuck Liddell a license for this fight.

The California State Athletic Commission has indefinitely suspended Chuck Liddell following his knockout loss to Tito Ortiz.

The suspension time for Liddell vs. Ortiz 3 are:

  • Chuck Liddell: suspended indefinitely (see California commission); suspended a minimum of 45 days with 30 days no contact (no exception) for the knockout
  • Tito Ortiz: suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact, or until cleared by the doctor, for a possible fracture of left shoulder and left knee; suspended a minimum of seven days for a mandatory rest period.
