While Ciryl Gane was etching his way into a superb victory at UFC Paris, the former UFC interim heavyweight champion had his home broken into.
Ciryl Gane lost over $166k during robbery including Rolex watch
During his main event clash against Sergey Spivak in the heavyweight main event at UFC Paris in Accor Arena last Saturday night, in which “Bon Gamin” secured a second-round TKO victory, a robbery had taken place at Gane’s home in Nogent-sur-Marne, which is 15 mins away from the French capital.
As per the latest reports surfaced, the thugs broke into the property by forcing open the front door, and stole over $150,000 euros (over $166,000 USD), mostly taking jewelry, including a Rolex watch.
An anonymous source has claimed to French media outlet La Parisien that the thugs were informed about Gane’s upcoming fixture, in assisting them to set up and plan the burglary at his home.
“It is possible that the thugs have made scouts or that a person in the athlete’s entourage has informed them about his schedule,” said the anonymous source.
While Gane suffered an unfortunate robbery, the Frenchman secured a vital comeback victory over Spivak, in the wake of the UFC 285 defeat against Jon Jones which was for thee vacant heavyweight gold.
Marking the second victory in his last four outings in the Octagon, Gane is at the no. 2 rank in the division and has discussed a potential clash with Tom Aspinall, who had called out Gane earlier.
“I know he called out my name, but that’s perfectly normal in this position. He wants to go up [the rankings],” said Gane regarding Aspinall during UFC Paris post fight interview. “But me too. You know what I mean? So I did a mistake, it was my first real mistake unfortunately and the people were a little bit hard with me, it was a little bit painful. But tonight I proved, with all of the pressure I can have, I did very great and I proved it … and I want to go back to the belt, for sure.” [H/T MMA Fighting]
