The fact of having a fight against Jon Jones does not prevent Ciryl Gane from expressing his admiration for his upcoming adversary

He’s the GOAT. Look at his career: Ciryl Gane on Jon Jones

Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane will be the main event at UFC 285, which will take place on March 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The winner of the bout will be crowned the next heavyweight champion, which is vacant after Francis Ngannou failed to reach an agreement with the UFC and decided to leave the organization and become a free agent.

In the press conference after UFC Vegas 67, the former interim champion of the division had only praise for “Bones” and defined the fact of facing him as “The realization of a dream.”

“When I started watching this, Jon Jones was one of my favorite fighters,” said Gane. “More when I started MMA, because I’m a fan of every sport in MMA, and when you look at a guy like Jon Jones, who’s well-rounded like this, you really appreciate it. He’s the GOAT. Look at his career.”

“Today, I’m a young fighter, and I think it’s the dream of every young fighter to fight against a GOAT. This is really crazy for me.” [H/T MMA Fighting]

Nearing three years of inactivity, ‘Bones’ was last seen in action against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in February 2020. After many ups and downs with the UFC regarding pay, as well as several back-and-forth speculations on whether the former Light Heavyweight champ would actually ever fight again, Jones revealed himself bulked up and ready for debut in the heaviest division.

On the other hand, Gane is coming off a 3rd round knockout win over Tai Tuivasa at UFC Paris back in September last year, which followed after the former interim heavyweight champ’s sole career loss to Ngannou in their unification bout at UFC 270.
