Cody Garbrandt offers TJ Dillashaw a part of his purse to get him to accept UFC 222 rematch

It’s pretty well known by now that UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway pulled out of the UFC 222 headliner against Frankie Edgar due to a leg injury.

But while Nate Diaz threw his name into the hat, the UFC doesn’t seem keen to take him up on the offer and has reportedly tried to make a rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt for the Bantamweight Title as a replacement.

If you recall, Dillashaw defeated Garbrandt at UFC 217 to win back the 135-pound Championship.

But making the rematch, thus far, has proven to be a tricky proposition for the UFC. While Garbrandt is only too keen to fight Dillashaw again, news coming out of TJ’s camp seemed to suggest that they weren’t sold on the idea of a rematch since they were pursuing a potential superfight against Flyweight supremo Demetrious Johnson at UFC 226.

But as per his interview with Luke Thomas on Sirius XM yesterday, Dillashaw suggested that he would be open to taking the fight against Garbrandt if the UFC would make it worth his while.

Garbrandt, who was simultaneously on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour show, immediately shot back saying that he would even be open to sharing his own purse with TJ should he take the fight.

While the UFC is yet to officially address the situation, it would seem that both TJ and Cody can be convinced into taking the fight should all parties come to an agreement.
