UFC welterweight star Colby Covington believes Mike Tyson is taking a very risky step by fighting Jake Paul in July.
The much-anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul, a social media sensation turned professional boxer, and Mike Tyson, the legendary former heavyweight champion, is set to take place on July 20, 2024.
The fight will be streamed live globally, exclusively on Netflix. The showdown will occur at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson, who will be 58 years old at the time of the fight, had a staggering run of 37 victories in his professional career, with 33 of those wins achieved by knockout.
Colby Covington shows concern for Mike Tyson ahead of Jake Paul fight
This event marks Paul’s, who is currently 9-1 as a pro boxer, most anticipated fight to date. While the combat sports fandom is looking forward to the bout, Colby Covington is not very enthusiastic.
Speaking to Adam Sosnick on the SOSCAST, “Chaos” revealed that fighting Paul might turn out to be a dangerous encounter for “Iron Mike”, who, despite showcasing appreciable power and speed during his recent training clips, is still suffering from multiple health issues, including sciatica.
“I don’t like it at all,” said Covington. “Mike still looks like a superhuman for (57), but he’s still (57) years old. He shouldn’t be fighting anymore. I don’t think it’s safe. I think it’s dangerous at that age. Your heart might explode. He gets hit in the head, he might have a brain bleed. … I hope Mike Tyson makes it through injury-free and doesn’t get hurt.”
“I don’t like the fight. Jake is in his mid-20s. He’s doing every chemical known to man. He’s literally a lab project. They’re just juicing him up, him and his brother. Everybody knows that. The machine is behind him, juicing him up, putting every chemical known to man. So, I think it’s going to end bad,” Covington added. [H/T MMA Junkie]
