UFC News: Colby Covington claims Tyron Woodley pulled out of another fight against him

Colby Covington

According to some reports a welterweight bout between former interim champ Colby Covington taking on former champ Tyron Woodley was in works for August.

The fight booking had the MMA community all excited as the fight made sense based on the welterweight division dynamics. However the excitement was short lived as Covington claimed that Woodley pulled out of their potential fight.

‘The Chaos’ took to social media to post an unsigned contract of their fight as a proof, accusing Woodley of not signing the dotted line. (via Instagram):

“This was supposed to be your main event August 22nd on ESPN until Tyrone did what his daddy should’ve and pulled out… AGAIN!” he said on Instagram.

The history of rivalry between Covington and Woodley:

This isn’t the first time Covington has accused Woodley of pulling out of fights. The duo have been expected to fight since a while however negotiation issues never let the fight materialize.

Being the interim champ, ‘The Chaos’ had the inevitable ticket to fight then champ Woodley. However Woodley defended his belt against Darren Till at UFC 228 in September 2018. Having gone through a 25 minute war just three months ago at UFC 225, Covington was still recuperating and couldn’t accept the fight.

A similar scenario took place when Covington was recovering from a surgery and the title shot was granted to current champ Kamaru Usman. A frustrated ‘Chaos’ addressed the issue claiming Woodley is past his prime.

“He gassed out against a fat school teacher the other night playing relay races on NBC, and I think the people close to him finally had a come to Jesus meeting about the suicidal tendencies he is exhibiting by wanting to sign a contract with my name on the other end of it,” he said. “It’s a death sentence and he knows it, everyone knows it.”

‘The Chaos’ is referring to ‘relay races’ on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s reality TV competition called ‘Titan Games’ which Woodley appeared on. Obviously taking a jab at Woodley indicating him not being interested in fighting.
