Colby Covington’s Retrospective

Colby Covington is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was born on February 22, 1988 in California, USA. He is also known by the names “Triple C” and “Chaos” by his fan all over the world. Covington graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon, the same school that produced 2000 Playboy Playmate of the Year Jodi Ann Patterson. His base skills have served him so well that, Covington ranks #3 among active Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweights.

He was always into athletics since childhood. He was an accomplished amateur wrestler. Covington won a National Junior College Athletic Association championship, where he went 34-0 as a freshman and roomed with two-time UFC light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones.

After a brief stint in the Oregon amateur MMA circuit, Covington moved to South Florida to train at American Top Team. He turned professional in 2012, compiling a record of 5-0 before signing with the UFC in the summer of 2014. Covington made his promotional debut against Anying Wang on August 23, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 48 and won the fight by submission due to strikes in the closing seconds of the first round. As he has climbed the welterweight ladder, his degree of difficulty has increased. Meunier, Griffin, Barberena and Kim are the four men, Covington has defeated during his current winning streak — own a cumulative record of 56-13-1. That equates to an 800 winning percentage. He faced only 1 loss where he fought against Warlley Alves on December 12, 2015 at UFC 194 via submission in the first round. He currently holds the record of 13 wins and 1 loss.

In 2017, Covington faced Demian Maia on October 28, at UFC Fight Night 119. He won the fight via unanimous decision (29–27, 30–27, 30–26). He then proceeded to call out the champion Tyron Woodley. His comments in the post fight interview generated some controversy, as he called Brazil a “dump” and referred to the Brazilian crowd as “Filthy animals”.
