On Saturday, years of trash talk accumulated in Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley facing off in the main event of UFC Fight Night from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas.
UFC Fight Night 178 ended with Tyron Woodley screaming in pain and Colby Covington screaming out for future fights after the brash American had broken down the former champ while lifting himself back into welterweight title contention.
The headline bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas was officially declared a TKO to Covington (16-2) at 1.19 of the fifth on Sunday but it was over long before that, the 32-year-old having gone to work from the very first minute and Woodley (19-6-1) having come up with nothing much in particular in terms of an answer.
The words then flowed from Covington and he grabbed his moment in the spotlight, playing to type with the hype and targets of his attentions.

He then dedicated tonight’s fight to all the first responders and the military for their service in handling the coronavirus and the protests across the nation.
“You keep us safe, not these woke athletes,” he said. “I’m sick of these woke athletes and these spineless cowards like LeBron James.”
It was a pretty random diss at LeBron. He’s been advocating for justice for Breonna Taylor and has referred to the Black Lives Matter movement as a lifestyle. In response to the death of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man who was shot multiple times in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he tweeted that he was “sick of it.”
The 38-year-old Woodley looked to have fallen to damaged ribs when he started making loud nasty noises while on his back in the fifth – and referee Dan Miragliotta waved it away – but the American’s was well bloodied, and he’d been well and truly bossed by then.
The makes it three straight losses and a cloudy future for “The Chosen One”, while the number two Colby Covington – justifiably – deserves a crack at whomever emerges from the mooted upcoming bout between the Nigerian-American title-holder Kamaru Usman (17-1) and the number one ranked Brazilian Gilbert Burns (19-3).
