Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has accepted a fight against his formal rival Dustin Poirier for January 23, 2021.

Conor McGregor wanted to fight Dustin Poirier later this year, but this time around the UFC execs didn’t bow down to the Irishman’s demands.

Conor McGregor stated that the fight will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The stadium is the home of the iconic NFL team Dallas Cowboys and has a seating capacity of 80,000 fans.

I accept, Jan 23rd is on! My goal is to see this fight take place in Cowboy stadium. Proper Style! Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can hold our crowd. I will be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny. #McGregorSportsandEntertainment.

McGregor also later added in his tweet that he was going to fight Manny Pacquiao after he is done with Dustin Poirier.

Dana White wouldn’t give Conor McGregor a fight date for 2020

UFC president Dana White was adamant that they couldn’t offer Conor McGregor a fight date in 2020 given their tight schedule. McGregor wanted to fight on November 21 card that had resulted in Cody Garbrandt pulling out of the fight against Deiveson Figueiredo.

I have no idea” White said about Conor McGregor’s fighting situation. “We’ve offered him a fight. We got him his own date. You guys saw everything that happened on social. We didn’t have a date this year, we have everything laid out for the rest of the year, with world champions fighting for titles. He wants to fight Dustin Poirier apparently, so we went to ESPN, we got him his own date and everything. He’s been offered the Dustin fight on January 23.”

I don’t know anything,” he said. “I offered him the date on January 23, that’s it.”

White also added that UFC might have been able to accommodate him in the 2020 schedule if he hadn’t announced his retirement earlier this year.

That’s not how it works,” he said. “We laid out this year, he was retired. Would anybody disagree that he was retired?” (H/T – BJPenn.com)

Conor McGregor is coming off of a 40-second Knockout victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 earlier this year in January. Prior to that, he was on an eighteen month inactivity period with his last fight being a submission loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in 2018.
