Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez- the two fight game icons have found themselves at each other’s grudge- and that has been making headlines all around.
Conor McGregor vs. Canelo Alvarez: the latest grudge in the fight town
The recent verbal altercation between the two started after “The Notorious” attended the recent Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron fight night in Dublin last weekend, where he made some comments about returning to boxing.
The former UFC double champ, who has only one pro boxing fight in his career- against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017, stated that he believes he can defeat Canelo Alvarez, the reigning undisputed champ at 168, without breaking a sweat.
“I’m a southpaw, Ryder was a southpaw, Billie Joe [Saunders] was a southpaw,” McGregor told Eddie Hearn and the media. “I’ve seen methods, I’ve seen things I’d do and I know he’s waning. I’d fight Canelo no f*****g problem. No problem.” [H/T BJPenn.com]
The comments were soon expected to generate a reply from Canelo, but when asked, the Mexican pugilist claimed that he was unaware of any callouts from McGregor. However later, during the reveal of his figure at the Wax Museum, Canelo stated that he can defeat McGregor with one hand behind his back.
“The truth is I haven’t seen what he said because I don’t have my social networks on my phone right now, but I’ll beat him with one hand behind my back,” said Alvarez in his response.
The comment came under the radar of the Irishman, who blasted Canelo on Twitter by calling him “little ginger sausage” and also saying he wound, in turn, beat him with both hands behind his back.
“Canelo you little ginger sausage. I’d beat you with NO HANDS. Don’t forget,” wrote McGregor in a now deleted tweet.
While the two have thrown shade at each other regarding a potential fight, there’s little chance that a Canelo vs. McGregor event will happen. The Irishman is set to return to the Octagon against Michael Chandler, while Canelo is focused on having a rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
