Irish superstar and former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has hinted that he may be taking part in the Tokyo Olympics which is scheduled to take place in Japan next year.

The Tokyo Olympics were scheduled to take part this year, but the world’s biggest sporting event has been postponed until 2021 following the Coronavirus outbreak. Now the Olympic is scheduled to take place from 23rd July to 8th August.

In a tweet last night, Conor McGregor stated that the Tokyo Olympics will feature sports like Boxing, Taekwondo, Karate, Wrestling and Judo, sports which he says, he is well versed in.

One year from today the Tokyo Olymics will see competition in sports I know well: judo, wrestling, karate, taekwondo and boxing. This happens if we are past this virus by then, we all must do our part!,” Conor McGregor tweeted.

As an MMA fighter, Conor McGregor has trained in numerous types of martial arts, but so far he has competed professionally only in boxing. Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut back in August of 2017 against Floyd Mayweather Jr at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It was one of the highest-selling PPV in the history of sports generating over half a billion dollars in revenue.

The fight also held the record for the second-highest gate of all time at $55,414,865.79.

In that fight, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor via technical knockout in the tenth round. It was a fairly easy assignment for then 40-year old, Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor rematch?

In an interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN, the Irishmen said that he would like to fight Mayweather again.

I’d like to rematch Floyd. I think we should rematch Floyd. I mean, he’s flirting with it, and they want all this. And he can go and pick someone else. It’s not gonna be the same. It’s not. I’ve done phenomenal in that bout.

I know I’d beat Floyd, I’d beat Floyd if we rematch when we rematch. He’s not gonna do a mixed martial arts bout like he said. It was supposed to be me boxing, and then we’ll do a mixed martial arts bout. That was what was said. And it came out of his mouth as well, and it was not written, but it was a verbal agreement. And obviously, that’s not gonna happen. I’m not going to push him on that, either. But I would like to box him. I think that would be a good rematch.

You never know,” McGregor concluded. (H/T – Complex)
