Khabib Nurmagomedov (27-0) successfully defended his UFC lightweight championship against Conor McGregor (21-4) via fourth-round submission in the main event of UFC 229 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, the most impressing thing about Khabib Nurmagomedov’s performance was that he not only dominated McGregor on the ground but also during standup and he dropped McGregor with a well-timed overhand right.

Speaking to Joe Rogan in a recent interview, SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh said ‘The Notorious’ was ‘very disappointed’ that he got caught with such a wild, looping right hand by his opponent.

“He (Conor) hates technical mistakes. So that right hand, you know… he was very disappointed he got caught with a shot like that,” Kavanagh said on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, per BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor. “But it is actually funny, I was just thinking about this, you know that right hand if you showed it to a boxing coach he would say ‘That’s horrible. Your head is down and you’re swinging’. But again, I don’t really care about people’s opinions on things. I just care about the effectiveness of the strike. It was a damn effective technique. You know it’s one of the hardest clean shots Conor has been caught within his MMA career.”

McGregor has asked for a rematch, but it’s not clear if he will be getting one anytime soon.
