At UFC 264, Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will have their trilogy fight in Las Vegas and the tickets for the event were sold out in seconds.
UFC 264 will be headlined by the highly anticipated trilogy between Dustin Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) and Conor McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC). McGregor scored a first-round knockout of Poirier at UFC 178 in 2014, but Poirier exacted his revenge almost six years later when he knocked out McGregor this past January at UFC 257.
Ticket prices for the UFC 264 fight card range from $300-$10,000, according to Aaron Bronsteter, and you’ll need a subscription to UFC Fight Club to buy them.
The temperature of the lightweight’s rivalry rose earlier this week over a donation promised by Conor McGregor to Dustin Poirier’s charity. Poirier initially claimed McGregor had reneged only to have McGregor lash out over the accounting of the money. Poirier on Wednesday backtracked, apologizing for calling out his opponent.
When they both fought as featherweights, McGregor quickly proved himself the superior fighter against Poirier with a first-round knockout in their first meeting in 2014. Ten pounds heavier, Poirier damaged McGregor’s leg before finishing the fight with a brilliant combination in their rematch.
Poirier had a chance to fight for the lightweight title left vacant by outgoing champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defeated him and McGregor. But the Louisianan decided to fight the third bout with McGregor, leaving ex-Bellator champ Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira to fight for the vacant belt at UFC 262.
Contrary to their first bout, the lead-up to the rematch was rather amicable, with McGregor offering a generous donation to Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. But according to Poirier, McGregor never followed through with the money, which has caused a Twitter spat between the two this week.
The back-and-forth resulted in McGregor threatening to fight somebody else instead, as numerous lightweights such as Rafael dos Anjos and Kevin Lee jumped at the opportunity to throw their names in the hat. Perhaps some gamesmanship by McGregor, but the promotion has pushed forward with the announcement as the UFC is set to return in front of a live audience in Las Vegas this summer.
The UFC 264 lineup includes:
- Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor
- Gilbert Burns vs. Stephen Thompson
- Jessica Eye vs. Jennifer Maia
- Ryan Hall vs. Ilia Topuria
- Omari Akhmedov vs. Brad Tavares
- Jerome Rivera vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov
