Conor Mcgregor has always stressed the importance of loyalty in this sport where a lot of people change gyms after every few fights. Conor has been training in SBG Ireland, Dublin since the start of his MMA career under the tutelage of John Kavanagh and Owen Roddy and has always credited them for his success at the top of the sport. Even for the boxing match against Floyd Mayweather he stuck to his gym for training and performed fairly well against one of the greatest boxers of all time.
John Kavanagh is one of the pioneers of MMA in Ireland, being the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the country and has awarded Conor a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu. In a recent tweet, Conor called Kavanagh, ‘The Godfather’, which shows the immense respect Mcgregor has for Kavanagh.
The Notorious and The Godfather.

There has been a lot of cryptic tweets which have been centered on family and loyalty by Conor in the run-up to the Khabib Nurmagomedov fight taking place on 6th of October at UFC 229. Other than social media posts, Conor has been very quiet in promoting the fight, preferring to focus only on his training camp led by non-other than John Kavanagh. It remains to be seen if Conor continues the theme of loyalty and family in the build-up to the fight which should get heated up right around Thursday where the first press conference will take place in New York.
