The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor is all set and ready to make his octagon comeback against the legendary veteran of the sport of MMA Donald Cowboy Cerrone. McGregor in a recent interview revealed that he did not make this comeback fight at lightweight instead of welterweight because he did not want Cowboy Cerrone to suffer because of the brutal weight cut.

McGregor recently gave out an exclusive interview to ESPN and told their noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani that he believes Cerrone is a natural welterweight and the weight cut to lightweight must be brutal for him. Thus, he wanted to face Cerrone at his best. Here’s what he had to say:

I know, I could have (made Donald Cowboy Cerrone fight at a 155 pounds), but I just don’t think that he looks well at 155 pounds. He does not look well at 155. He is a 170 fighter. Why would I want him to suffer? I don’t care. No! I could beat him if he fought at 155. I would beat him any day and I would beat him at any weight. I would beat him when I have the flu. So like I don’t care. You know what I mean, I don’t need that. I just need to focus on my own training and keep me sharped. You know I am happy where I am at and also 170 is exciting for me. I like 170, I like what is going on at the 170 division in the minute. You got Jorge with that belt (the BMF title). You got other guys with the belt and I feel good at 170, I feel energetic. It is what I weigh and that’s it. So it opens up so many more opportunities and options, right. No, I am not done at 155. I can make 155 for this fight, no problem but I just want to go in fresh and as it is. Let the fight play as it is and then open up all my options.
