Mackenzie Dern Opens Up on Her Victory at UFC Vegas 101
Dern’s victory was a testament to her growth as a fighter. In their first meeting, she struggled to secure a takedown and lost by unanimous decision. However, in the rematch, Dern showcased her world-class jiu-jitsu skills, patiently waiting for the right moment to execute the armbar. “I’m happy to get that [loss] off my record,” Dern said in her post-fight interview.
The fight was a back-and-forth battle, with both fighters exchanging strikes and grappling exchanges. Ribas managed to reverse Dern in the second round and opened a cut with an elbow, but Dern remained composed and continued to work towards her submission victory.
With this win, Dern is now on a two-fight win streak and is looking ahead to bigger challenges in the strawweight division. “I just want to get another win in a row, I don’t know who that’ll be. I would hope someone in front [in the rankings], but I fought almost everyone in the front,” Dern said, hinting at her desire for a title shot.
