Irish boxing superstar Katie Taylor defeated Delfine Persoon in a highly entertaining and controversial fight to become the undisputed women’s lightweight champion at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The fight took place on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz. The fight was action-packed throughout the 10-rounds. Katie who was a massive 20-1 favourite had an extremely hard time against the Belgian opponent. Parsoon pressured Taylor for the entirety of the fight, but ultimately it was Taylor who was victorious. The judges’ scorecards read 95-95 96-94 96-94, earning a majority points win.
With this win, Taylor has improved her record to 14-0 with 6 KOs. Many didn’t agree with the decision, but Katie said after the fight that she would be happy to rematch Persoon.
“I’m definitely happy to give Delfine a rematch if she wants,” Katie said.
Irish MMA superstar and former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor took to Twitter to praise fellow Irish.
Congratulations Ireland’s Katie Taylor! What a battle that was from two warrior women.
It has rematch written all over it.
Rematch in Ireland!
Katie’s Frazier, Delfine Persoon!

Buzzing after that.
So intriguing to see Katie face an opponent of that style. Heavy forward pressure with a skilled clinch game.
A rematch knowing what style lies ahead would show the real gulf in class between the two, but that’s a great rival!
We all need them. That’s Katie’s!— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) June 2, 2019
