Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor also reacted to the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. The Irish superstar was present at the Staples Center for the GRAMMYs.

It is very very sad news, It’s iconic that I’m here and that he used to play in this arena, it’s very sad news, lost his daughter as well… I’m very happy to be here but sad at the same time. It’s just a very sad time.

For me the first time I ever came to America, Kobe was one of the big stars. We don’t really understand basketball back home too much, but his [Kobe] transcends sports. He is a great man and I would have loved to meet him and it’s a very sad day,”

I am in shock over the tragic news of Kobe’s and Gianna’s passing. Words can’t describe the pain I’m feeling. I loved Kobe – he was like a little brother to me.

We used to talk often and I will miss those conversations very much. He was a fierce competitor, one of the greats of the game and a creative force.

Kobe was also an amazing dad who loved his family deeply – and took great pride in his daughter’s love for the game of basketball.
