Conor McGregor says rematch with Poirier will be easy, but Khabib rematch will be ‘easier’

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor is all set to rematch his former arch-rival, Dustin Poirier, at UFC 257 taking place later this weekend at the Ethihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

This fight is the rematch from when the pair fought at UFC 178 back in 2014. In that fight, Conor McGregor knocked out Dustin Poirier in the first round. The first fight took place at featherweight, however, this fight will be taking place in the lightweight and this time around the fight will have significant title implication.

Since losing to Conor McGregor seven years ago, Dustin Poirier moved up to the lightweight division and had an impressive 10-2 run and even won the interim lightweight title by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 236. He then lost in a lightweight title fight against current UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. He finally bounced back from his loss by defeated Dan Hooker via decision last June.

Conor McGregor will make easy work of Khabib and Poirier

In an interview with TSN, Conor McGregor said that he isn’t bothered by Dustin Poirier’s 10-2 run in the UFC and he promised to make an easy work of Poirier. He also stated that while Dustin Poirier fight will be easy, Khabib Nurmagomedov rematch will be much easier.

I’ll tell you what, this will be an easy rematch for me this Sunday, but it won’t be my easiest rematch. When I get that rematch against Khabib, it will be an easy rematch, and I guarantee this. If he wants to continue running, that is no problem I will eliminate the rest of them,” Conor McGregor said to TSN. “Besides him who ran, it is Dustin. He has knocked out Justin, beat Dan Hooker, and Chandler he is coming from a lower league and hasn’t been tested in the UFC so we will see.

Justin has beaten Tony, I would say Dustin is right up there that is why I am excited about it, that is why you are going to see the levels and the difference of levels between myself and the top of the division. I am in space, I am not from here, that is where I am at,” Conor McGregor continued. “I’m on a different planet with my skillset and I look forward to showcasing it this Sunday morning in Abu Dhabi.” (H/T – BJPenn.com)
