UFC double champ Conor McGregor is now all set to be making his debut on the silver screen, as the Irishman has been officially revealed to be teaming up with Hollywood superstar Jake Gyllenhaal for the upcoming remake of Road House.
Conor McGregor to star in Road House remake, which was originally going to feature Ronda Rousey
The news of a remake of the 1989 cult classic featuring Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliott broke out back in 2015 and the then UFC Women’s Bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey was tipped to be starring in the movie and was set to play a female version of Swayze’s character James Dalton.
Rousey, who later went onto star in mega projects such as “The Expendables 3,” “Furious 7” and “Entourage”, slowly became detached to the remake, but the idea was still very much alive and as it turns out, the new movie has landed the most famous MMA fighter in the world- “The Notorious” himself.
As reported by Deadline, the remake will feature Oscar-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal alongside McGregor, who will play the role of “a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”
Deadline added that the movie will be directed by Doug Liman, and Anthony Bagarozzi & Charles Mondry are the scriptwriters. The movie will be released on Amazon Prime Video. Sources have also cited that McGregor will not be playing as himself and will star as an original character.
“Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of ‘Road House,’ a beloved classic,” McGregor’s spokeswoman Karen Kessler told MMA Junkie, “While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming.”
Aside from McGregor and Gyllenhaal, the Road House remake cast will feature Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery. (as stated by Deadline)
