Conor McGregor has nodded to the call out from Michael Chandler after the former Bellator lightweight champion marked a brutal KO against Tony Ferguson at UFC 274, saying that he is quite eager to take on Chandler at welterweight in the near future.

He may be out of action or out of victory, but Conor McGregor is still the stalwart in mixed martial arts- and everyone wants to have a shot at taking on the Irishman. That list includes Michael Chandler, who threw a challenge at McGregor after his second round front kick knockout of Ferguson at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona last Saturday night.

“Conor McGregor, you’ve got to come back and fight somebody,” said Chandler, “I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet. But I want to up the stakes, Conor. I want you at your biggest, I want you at your baddest and I want you at your best. You and me at 170 this summer, this fall, this winter. Holler at your boy!” [H/T MMA Fighting]

Conor McGregor is “definitely game” to take on Michael Chandler at welterweight

Soon after the call out from Chandler, McGregor took to Twitter to respond, nodding to the 170 challenge, as well as congratulating “Iron” for his smashing victory over Ferguson.

“I’d have a nice knock off this guy, no doubt about it. A firework spectacle. I like the 170 shout also. Tipped him over. I’m definitely game to fight this guy at some stage in my career. I see it happening after tonight. Congrats on a solid win Michael and another barnstormer,” McGregor tweeted.

The former double champion’s return to the Octagon is one of the most anticipated events that fans are eagerly waiting to see happen this year, with the now bulked-up McGregor expected to return to welterweight. “The Notorious” has been out of action since breaking his leg in the trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July last year.
