UFC’s biggest superstar Conor Mcgregor has successfully gone through surgery as he broke his ankle in his fight at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier.
UFC 264 main event fight between Conor Mcgregor and Dustin Poirier ended in the most dramatic way possible. The fight was the third battle between these two elite lightweights. The duo had fought twice before with Conor and Dustin both winning each of the fights.
The trilogy fight was a back and forth battle that lasted only one round. Dustin took Conor down and landed some vicious elbows and ouches on him. Conor tried to lock in a guillotine choke but was unsuccessful. In the last ten seconds of the fight, Dustin let Conor up and they both threw punches at the same time and both missed, but Conor missed his step backward and twisted his ankle which snapped right at the end of the first round. The doctor came to check the leg and declared it was broken. Hence, Dustin won the fight via TKO by Doctor Stoppage.
After the fight, McGregor was taken out of the octagon on a stretcher and was sent to Los Angeles for surgery at Cedars-Sinai hospital. The surgery went for more than three hours, Dr. El Attrache and Dr. Milton Little operated, which saw an intramedullary rod inserted in his tibia, as well as a small plate and screws to repair the fibula, a first reported by TMZ.
