The much-anticipated trilogy fight between Conor Mcgregor and Dustin Poirier will be taking place on UFC’s July 10 card. No official announcement has been made so far.

The Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy looks as though it has a preliminary date

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the UFC originally wanted to put the bout on a May 15 card, but negotiations have taken longer than expected. Since the company won’t put the fight on UFC 263 on June 12, which is set to be headlined by Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno, July 10 is the next logical landing spot.

“There was once a hope McGregor-Poirier 3 fight would get done for May 15 but it’s taken longer than hoped/expected so they moved on from that a while ago, sources say,” Helwani wrote. “Won’t happen on June 12 (Figueiredo-Moreno on that card), so the latest hope is the July 10 card. We’ll see.”

As UFC president Dana White finally coming to terms with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement, the wheels of the lightweight division have begun to turn once again. Now that the title has officially been relinquished, the promotion has matched Michael Chandler against Charles Oliveira to crown a new champion at UFC 262. That event, which takes place May 15, had been rumored to play host to the final McGregor-Poirier pairing. However, it appears talks for that date between the camps had stalled, so the UFC decided to book the title fight then instead.

While Dustin will have the edge going into the third fight, he said that the trilogy will be completely different from the second fight.

It’s fighting man, I don’t think you ever really (have someone’s number). He’ll make adjustments. It’ll be a completely different fight,” Dustin Poirier said to Joe Rogan on his podcast. “Like the first one and the second one were different, the third one is going to be different as well. I’m going to make adjustments as well. I’m going to switch it up, keep things fresh and keep him guessing.”
