We might have been in the dark for quite some time about Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC, but it seems that the much anticipated return of the former double champ is finally nearing fruition.
I look forward to my upcoming fight: Conor McGregor
“The Notorious” has been out of action since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy at UFC 264 in July 2021- two years back when he last fought in the Octagon. Aside from the recovery from the fracture, McGregor’s return has also been undetermined due to him not entering the USADA testing pool yet, aside from the controversial incidents- most recently the sexual assault allegations on a woman in the men’s restroom during the fourth game of the NBA Finals.
However, McGregor has been steadfast throughout everything that he will indeed return and is expected to face Michael Chandler, the former UFC Lightweight title contender who has been his opposing coach at TUF 31.
“Iron” himself has shown positiveness regarding McGregor’s return, as he told Daniel Cormier on YouTube last week.
“I think Conor’s coming back,” said Chandler. “I don’t think he wants to stain his legacy by leading us all down this road of, I’m doing the Ultimate Fighter, I’m fighting Michael Chandler, oh, by the way, never mind. I’m not coming back. All I know is I’m controlling the controllable, and either way, I’m gonna keep on moving forward, and I do believe I fight Conor within the next six months, and it’s going to be one of the biggest pay-per-views that we have ever seen, and I’m gonna go out there and knock him out within the first two rounds.”
While the speculations go on, McGregor himself took to Twitter that he has been in well preparation for the return.
“I look forward to my upcoming fight. I am well in preparation,” tweeted McGregor.
