Conor McGregor says he won two rounds against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229

UFC superstar Conor McGregor stated that he feels he won round 1, 3, and 4 against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 before getting submitted.

At UFC 229 Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight gold against his arch-rival the former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor. Nurmagomedov dominated the fight for most of the time before submitting McGregor in the fourth round. Nurmagomedov even dropped McGregor with winging right hand in the second round.

The rivalry between the two larger-than-life fighters made the fight extremely intriguing. Despite the fight having taken place two years ago, both fighters still maintain immense hatred for each other. Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov have both taken to social media multiple times to ridicule each other. The rematch between the two fighters is something most MMA fans are desperate to see. However, it is well known that Khabib will not fight for a lot longer, and he maintains that he has no interest in fighting McGregor.

Conor McGregor claims he won two rounds against Nurmagomedov

While replying to a fan, McGregor shared his thoughts on how the fight went and how he feels that he scored more in the 1st,3rd, and 4th rounds against Khabib at UFC 229. In the fight at UFC 229, Khabib landed 104 total strikes with a 66% hits to the head. He also landed 70 significant strikes with 58% accuracy. ‘The Eagle’ also secured 12:15 minutes of control time on the ground throughout the fight.

Conor replied to the fan saying, “On the Mula! Round 1’s mine. Out struck 3-1. Elbow, knees, clatters! He held on. 2s his but I land multiple knees. One from standing after the overhand, and one from the bottom into the eye socket at kimura attempt. Not a scratch end of the round also. I won round 3, and 4 until the trip.” The Notorious’ also argued that round 1 was won by him.

“Damage! Backhands forced him to the fence. Knee into the neck as he shot, after 15 seconds of the opening bell. Heavy elbow right into his temple as he froze after his shot. Repeated clatters to the temple while he tries his mermaid wrap leg. Rd was 1 pitiful from him. Rd 2 saved him.”

Though the fight between the two men was exciting, the brawl that transpired after the fight and the bad blood between the two camps is something that has dominated the headlines ever since. However, Conor McGregor did fare better than most MMA fans and pundits had predicted. Ultimately, he too could not stop Khabib Nurmagomedov like the 26 others before him.

‘The Notorious One’ makes a good case for winning a few rounds. Still, many MMA fans and critics won’t agree with this theory of McGregor. Khabib on numerous occasions said he won’t fight Conor this easily. Conor must fight and win against Poirier in their rematch to secure another shot at the lightweight gold.

But first Khabib Nurmagomedov has to fight his biggest MMA challenge in front of him with the name of Justin Gaethje. Nurmagomedov will fight Gaethje at UFC 254. While McGregor is scheduled to rematch Dustin Poirier in early 2021.
