Corey Anderson responds to Anthony Smith’s criticism: 3 of your 4 wins aren’t even relevant

Anthony Smith had quite a turnaround to his career. Not many fight fans remember that “Lionheart” debuted in the UFC back in 2013. His loss in his debut against Antonio Braga Neto resulted in him being cut from the organisation. But his second innings with the UFC, particularly after moving up to 205 pounds, has been a fairly quick shoot up to a championship contender. His opportunity to fight arguably the greatest light heavyweight of all time for the title after just having 3 wins in the division raised many eyebrows, one of whom was Corey Anderson.

Smith has, however, silenced his critiques up to some degree by finishing perennial contender Alexander Gustafsson earlier this month. After the fight, Smith told MMA Fighting that if anyone wants a fight against him then they would have to prove themselves. The statement was particularly aimed at Anderson and Luke Rockhold.

While it did took “Overtime” some time to react, but he went all guns blazing at Smith when he took to Twitter.

While Corey’s outright negation of Smith’s former opponents may not be the best analysis but he does have a claim about him being worthy enough of a fight against the former. After winning the 19th season of The Ultimate Fighter, Anderson has been constantly facing top tier competition. He is currently on a three fight winning streak and may very well be entering his athletic prime.

When Smith received his title shot against Jones, Anderson said that he hadn’t earned his stripes. A fight between the two may be the best option for either of them. But the two will have to wait till atleast December as Smith is recovering from a hand injury that will keep him out till December.
