Daniel Cormier roasts Julian Marquez over asking Miley Cyrus to be his valentine

UFC middleweight Julian Marquez after his latest win used his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan to ask global pop star Miley Cyrus to be his valentine.

Marquez (8-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) returned to the octagon Saturday following a 31-month layoff and submitted Maki Pitolo in the third round of their middleweight bout. His post-fight completely overshadowed the performance. In the lead-up to his return, Marquez told the media he was planning to walk out to a Miley Cyrus cover of the classic Blondie song Heart of Glass. His dedication to the pop star didn’t end there as he ended his post-fight interview with Valentine’s Day callout directed at Cyrus.

Just a few hours later, Cyrus responded on Twitter. She said she would oblige Marquez’s request – but only if he shaved her initials into his chest hair. While most people expected Marquez to sprint to the nearest bathroom and shave Miley’s initials into his chest hair, he instead responded with an additional request for the pop star. Many fans think that Marquez may have blown away his chance by this reply.

He begs to differ, though, and said things are happening exactly as they need to – despite not having fulfilled Cyrus’ stipulation.

“I have not shaven an ‘MC’ in my chest just yet,” Julian told MMA Junkie Radio on Monday. “I flew home (Sunday) and spent some time with my family. It’s been 31 months. I’ve spent two camps away from my family, kind of pushing them away. I’ve spent the majority of the time with my grandmother. But here’s the thing: A man’s chest hair is sacred. It’s like a lion’s mane. It’s very difficult to shave. But I am talking to some people right now and we have something in the works for everybody.

“Trust me, everything is going to work out the way you guys want it to work out. Everything is going the way it should go. For everyone saying I blew it, I think that’s hilarious because that’s not what it looks like on this side.”

Daniel Cormier gives his opinion on Marquez callout

The former two-division champion weighed in on Miley and Marquez’s highly-publicized exchange on Monday’s episode of DC & Helwani. He feels Julian was in no position to make additional demands and blew his chance with the pop star as a result.

“You come and give a demand to Miley Cyrus, Julian Marquez?” Cormier said, stifling laughter. “It was a blunder because now it’s over. It’s over. She’s not engaging anymore, it’s over. She’s like ‘well, I gave the UFC guy a Tweet. I gave the guy an opportunity…’ If he had [shaved ‘MC’ into his chest hair], she would have responded, she would have Retweeted it, she would have talked about it. But now…

This is the action of a guy that’s never had a girlfriend,” Cormier continued. “I don’t think Julian Marquez has ever had a girlfriend in his life. You don’t see stuff like that. You got the cool girl! You got the belle of the ball to respond. All you’ve got to do is go and shave the ‘MC’, and the moment you take the picture you can just shave it all off and it’ll grow back in two days. But instead, you make a demand to Miley Cyrus.

“I crumbled for the poor guy,” Cormier concluded. “I literally died inside for the poor guy. Julian, you blew it. He’s a nice guy, but he blew it.”
